Hurricane Ike impact being added up
St Louis News.Net Monday 6th October, 2008
The environmental damage from Hurricane Ike is now becoming apparent.
Hurricane Ike's winds and massive waves destroyed oil platforms, oil storage tanks and pipelines.
Environmental damage was enormous when at least a half million gallons of crude oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico and the bays of Louisiana and Texas.
The Coast Guard and environmental agencies have responded to more than 3,000 pollution reports associated with the storm and its surge along the upper Texas coast and Louisiana.
The most common contaminant left in Ike's wake was crude oil.
